History: Bobby Drake discovered his mutant ability during his early teens, but kept it secret from everyone except his parents. When bullies attacked Drake and his girlfriend, the mutant temporarily encased one of the young thugs in ice. Believing Drake a menace, the townspeople formed a lynch mob. This prompted the local sheriff to take Drake into custody for the boy's own protection. Sent by Professor Charles Xavier, the X-Man Cyclops broke into Drake's cell. The lynch mob caught the two mutants, but Professor X used his mental powers to stop the townspeople and erase their memories of Drake's abilities. A grateful Drake then accepted Xavier's invitation to join the X-Men. |

Although he was the comedian of the group, Drake always pulled his weight and coordinated with rest of the team. After a newly assembled squad of X-Men rescued Xavier's original students, Iceman and the other founding members left the fold -- except for Cyclops, who stayed on. Shortly after the demise of the Defenders, Drake joined the other original X-Men to form X-Factor. During this period, the Asgardian trickster Loki increased Iceman's powers. Some time later, Drake returned to the X-Men, X-Factor disbanding completely, with any remaining members returning to the X-Men as well. |
|
Years passed by quietly until the mid 1990's, when to the X-Men's dismay the Hellfire Club quickly began gaining ground, members and influence over the globe. In an effort to stop the madness, the X-Men flew out to Colorado in a brash attempt to destroy the Sentinals who were controlled by the Hellfire Club. Sadly, true to the seasonal nature, the Fall of 2000 ensued. Excalibur and the X-Men joined forces against the Hellfire Club and many lost their lives. Among them were Bobby's mentor, Professor Xavier, his comrades Jean Grey, Rogue, former love Polaris and former nemesis Magneto. |

But Bobby Drake survived and along with his other teammates, they retreated back to the ruins of the Mansion that had been destroyed by Hellfire associates during the battle out west. It is here the Iceman lives, day to day, with his friends seeking revengence for the lost and justice due, despite the price on their heads. Only now can they begin to rebuild their lives, here in winter 2001. |
