Biography: As the adopted son of the leader of the Thieves' Guild of New Orleans, Gambit is also, needless to say, a phenomenal thief. When Remy was being forced to marry his lover Belladonna to keep the peace between the Thieves' Guild and her family's Assassins' Guild, her brother Julien challenged him and was killed. As a result, Gambit left New Orleans and apparently ended up in Seattle, where he did some work for Sinister. In addition, at this point in time Gambit's powers were flaring out of control, and he has Sinister perform an operation that lowered them to normal levels. His last job was to assemble a group of operatives and help them to infiltrate a secret, closed community. These "operatives," now known as the Marauders, were let into the Morlock tunnels, where they commenced the slaughter known as the Mutant Massacre. Gambit tried to stop them, and was almost gutted by Sabretooth. He did manage to save a little girl named Sarah, who would one day grow up to be Marrow. Months later, Gambit ran into the de-aged Storm when they both tried to rob the same house. The two became a team, and escaped the Shadow King's minions, who were chasing Storm, and ended up at the ruins of the X-Mansion just in time to be captured by the Genoshan Army and taken to Genosha for trial. Upon Professor X's return, Gambit became a charter member of the X-Men's Blue Team, but always seemed as if he had secrets, which of course, he did. He very shortly became enamored of Rogue, and the two have pursued an on-again, off-again relationship. While he was an X-Man, however, he could not escape the shadow of his past, and it continued to pull at his soul. |
About this time, a woman joined the X-Men who would change his life forever. Lilian Alexia Lehnsherr was the daughter of the X-Men's most feared rival, Magneto. She came seeking Charles help because her powers seemed to be out of control. While she was admitted, the X-Men seemed to keep their distance from her. There was something about her that made Remy feel as if she too was hiding some dark forbiddion secret. Making it a point, he began spending less time with Rogue, and more time with the mystery woman. For whatever case, this perhaps spawned the dark hatred from Rogue towards Lily. |
A long courtship took place at Xavier's, as the two spent as much time that was possible to themselves. Perhaps that's what ultimately caused them to leave the X-Men. Whatever the case, they did, but stayed relatively close. Opening up a Nightclub in New York, Remy and Lily thought that perhaps this was their second chance. One year later they were blessed with a son. |
The Fall of 2000 happened so suddenly, that Remy had no choice but to go to the war with his comrades. Lily refused to go, but vanished from the Aces right before Remy disappeared. Remy witnessed the War first hand, and watched each of his comrades fall...but to his amazement, he came out with only minor scrapes and bruises. After being nearly beheaded by Fitzroy, Remy woke up, next to Wolverine, another to come out unharmed. Together the two picked up the broken pieces, aiding those that had fallen and stood back up that day. |
Since the war, the Five Aces has become something of a haven. Unable to figure out why he was not hunted like his fellow X-Men, he uses it as an advantage. Selling information to both sides for a price, gambling with his life as well as his girlfriend and son's. |
